I am a 48 year old man with mental and physical health needs who requires support in an encouraging and supportive manner to live my life as independently as possible.
I am polite and good natured and am looking forward to building a good working relationship with a Personal Assistant. I enjoy playing guitar and listening to music.
Awaken employer from sleep and gain entry to flat by ringing doorbell or if there is no response using own mobile phone to call his landline.
Encourage employer, in a good-humoured manner, to shave and shower himself and to dress in clean clothes.
Clean the dining area, stack/unload dishwasher and put away dishes as required.
Make and serve the employer a balanced nutritious breakfast.
Clean and tidy the kitchen while employer is having breakfast.
Maintain a good standard of food hygiene i.e. stored food should be covered and within date and the fridge is regularly cleaned (out of date or badly stored food should be disposed of after notifying employer).
Help employer to make bed, changing bedlinen at least weekly or more often if needed.
Sort laundry into wash loads and choose most appropriate washing and drying programme on washer/dryer.
Assist employer to fold and sort clean laundry and put away.
Clean and tidy bathroom daily.
Tidy lounge, vacuuming as necessary.
Plan evening meals and assist with shopping if required.
Make appointments as necessary and remind employer as appropriate.
Encourage and assist employer to explore and take part in social and learning activities.
Any other tasks requested by the employer that are reasonable and are within the scope of the job as outlined.
Experience of dealing with people with mental health problems.
Qualification in food hygiene or similar.
Understanding of nutrition requirements for diabetes 2 patients.
Prepared to use own personal mobile phone to gain entry to flat if necessary.
Able to recognize and discuss with employer if more urgent assistance is appropriate.
Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. For example:
Be able to discuss and understand any difficulties the employer may experience and seek further assistance as appropriate by giving an accurate explanation of the difficulty.
To ask, understand and act on the employers wishes generally. However, should these wishes conflict with the basic aim of establishing and maintaining a daily routine (such as saying “I can’t be bothered” or “I’m having a bad day”) be able to be patient and use persuasion skills to keep to a daily routine without causing distress or resentment.
Be able to read and understand domestic appliances instructions and choose the most appropriate programme setting.
Trustworthy, capable of discretion and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Be reliable, punctual and able to work without direct supervision.
Have a caring, empathetic and friendly manner with a sense of humour yet be mindful of the need for dignity, privacy and respect for the employer in his own home.
Able to cook simple breakfasts and prepare lunches that are balanced and nutritious.
Monday to Thursday: 09:00 - 11:00
Friday: 08:00 - 10:00
Early start of 07:00 - 09:00 will be required on occasion to prepare for appointments etc.
