Personal Assistant

I am the employer and mother to my young son who is in receipt of direct payments from Together for Children. My son is diagnosed with mild Cerebral Palsy, learning disabilities and is visually impaired. He sometimes struggles to have his word understood so will require someone with patience and understanding. He is very laid back in nature with a good sense of humour and enjoys most activities associated to his age such as swimming, trampoline parks, soft plays and he especially enjoys being outdoors, riding his scooter and going to the beach. He is a strong boy despite his size and has a good level of fitness, so will require someone active and able to keep up and ensure his safety at all times. My son is visually impaired so is extremely vulnerable, he requires close supervision. He is doubly incontinent and will require personal care support when out. I am seeking a PA to provide day time social opportunities an to enable me to dedicate some quality time to his sibling and provide me a break from my caring role. The hours would support the us with a break, whilst providing my son with opportunities outside of his home and enable the Personal Assistant to explore his behaviours. • To support my son in developing his social skills and help build his confidence. • To provide support which will enable his sibling and I a break from our caring role • To be proactive in identifying suitable activities and venues and be willing to get involved in his choice of play • The role is to befriend and offer companionship to my son with a view to extending his support network • To promote and enable my son to access age appropriate activities and hobbies of his choice • Support with personal care during sessions may be required • To deliver sessions at times that will support me and his sibling quality time and a break from our caring role. • My son’s needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. • You may be required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to your role. I am seeking a personal assistant who has a calm and caring nature, patience and some knowledge or experience of supporting individuals with similar physical and learning. I require someone who is committed and motivated in wanting to make a difference and improving outcomes for my son, ensuring his safety and wellbeing is paramount and maintained at all times You should be outgoing, energetic, friendly, patient and enthusiastic with a willingness to get involved in his chosen activity You should be enthusiastic and have an ability to promote and assist individuals in developing hobbies and interests outside of the home, including peer relationships in a social environment. Car owner and full valid driving license is desirable but not essential (business insurance required) as we are situated close to lots of amenities and good public transport
