About the employer

I am looking for a personal assistant for my son. He has cerebral palsy and is hearing impaired. I am wanting a personal assistant to work with him fortnightly for 6 hours on a Saturday in term time and a Monday or Wednesday in school holidays. Your role will be to support him in the community or at home to do activities that interest him. My son is a very happy, sociable boy with a great personality. He is creative and loves crafts, games and socialising. This role will be perfect for someone that genuinely enjoys working with children and helping them to have fun and become independent. Experience is preferred but personality, attitude and the ability to build positive relationships are just as important.

About the role

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop a good and trusting one-to-one working relationship.
To be comfortable supporting someone who is a wheelchair user. Occasional hoist use. Some personal care will be required around toileting.

The individual's needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately and to report defects or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure. Costs will be covered.

Transport requirement

A full driving licence is essential as the role requires you to drive the employer's vehicle. For insurance purposes you must be at least 25 years old.

Fun and interacting. Your communication and body language will be important in this role.

Required training

Successful candidates are required to undertake any training considered necessary and appropriate to the role.

  • Moving and Handling. Training will be provided by the employer.
