I am the employer and father to my young son who has been offered direct payment to enable him to access the community for activities with a PA. He has a diagnosis of Autism, learning disabilities and is nonverbal. He uses facial expressions to communicate and will hand leading to what he wants. He is undergoing assessment for ADHD and suffers with anxiety and low mood at times. He can become tearful and on occasion may self-harm (hitting himself) when anxious, upset or frustrated. My son does not require support with personal care however needs prompt and supervision. He is a happy, bubbly young boy, he enjoys most activities and is open to trying new things. He has a great sense of humour. He enjoys the company of adults and 1-1 attention and will engage with anyone he meets. He loves music and enjoys being active and the outdoors, going swimming, to trampoline parks and the beach and walks, he also likes to go to look around shops and going out for meals. My son is extremely vulnerable and will always require close supervision as he is not able to identify risk to himself or others. We are seeking a PA to assist and support my son in accessing activities outside of the home and encourage him to become a little more independent, He is socially isolated and spends most of his time with family, so this would offer him the opportunity to extend his social support network, allowing him time away from us as his parents and his home, whilst also offering us a break from our caring role. TASKS REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED OR SUPPORTED BY THE PA: The successful personal assistant will be required to support my son in accessing the community, engaging in new activities and experiences wherever possible. They should be outgoing, friendly, patient, enthusiastic and energetic, which will support in developing his social skills and help build his independence and confidence. The role is to befriend and offer companionship to my son with a view to extending his support network and life skills Support my son to access activities of her choice such as • Going for walks • Going to parks or to the beach • Going swimming • Going to Trampoline Parks • Going for meals • Looking around shops/shopping • Encourage and engage him in new activities • 1-1 support and supervision at all times due to his vulnerability and inability to identify risks My sons needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
