I am an active young person with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, and Speech and Language Delay who loves animals and enjoys spending time outdoors. I also enjoy singing nursery rhymes, which I sometimes use to help communicate my needs. I have a fantastic sense of humour and enjoy having fun with the people around me. Due to my autism and communication difficulties, I can find it challenging to understand verbal cues and express my needs verbally. I benefit from clear, patient, and supportive communication and from people taking the time to understand how I communicate. I can feel nervous in new situations and do not like busy or crowded environments. However, with the right support and reassurance, I can successfully access and enjoy a variety of activities in the community. I can find it difficult to wait in queues and may struggle to communicate when I am thirsty, uncomfortable, or need something. My diet is quite limited, and I may require support and encouragement around food choices. Because of my developmental and communication needs, I do not always recognise when I am cold, unwell, or have hurt myself, so I require someone who is observant and able to monitor my wellbeing. I can also become disorientated in unfamiliar places and need support to stay safe. I particularly enjoy running and being active outdoors. As I can be impulsive and may run off in unfamiliar environments, I require close supervision when out in the community to ensure my safety while still enabling me to enjoy the activities I love. I am looking for a caring, patient, reliable, and understanding Personal Assistant who has experience supporting individuals with autism and communication difficulties. The right person will help me access the community, build my confidence, develop my independence, and enjoy new experiences in a safe and positive way.
