I am both the employer and father of my preschool son who is diagnosed with Autism, Severe learning disabilities and Chromosome deletion. My son is nonverbal, is unable to walk and does not eat food. He can walk small distances within the home using a specialised walker but is unable to walk when out and about. He has access to a pushchair for outings. My son’s diet only consists of shakes so will not require assistance with meals when on an activity. I am looking to recruit a Personal Assistant to assist in the provision of 1-1 support, to meet my son’s assessed needs by Together for Children, providing him with the opportunity to access social activities in the community with someone other than a family member and provide us as a break from our caring role as his parents. My son requires support with his personal care as he wears nappies and will need assistance with toileting and changing when out. My son enjoys being outdoors, going to the beach, soft plays and likes most things sensory led. He will require very close supervision and support at all times. He is extremely vulnerable and young, so his safety is paramount. Whilst he is nonverbal, he can communicate in his own way, he uses facial gestures to show if he enjoys something and will cry if unhappy.
The PA will be required to support and assist him in accessing the community and willing to get involved in all activities of his choice. My son interacts with adults well and enjoys the 1-1 attention. .
