We are looking for a kind, reliable and practical Personal Assistant to support a woman who experienced a brain haemorrhage five years ago and now lives with both cognitive and physical disabilities. She is warm, engaging and enjoys getting out into the community when possible. Support is needed at home and occasionally outside the home, especially when her husband is at work. The role involves helping with everyday tasks, household chores, occasional outings and appointments. You will also assist with daily exercises (guided by a physio) and dog walking. This is a hands-on role that suits someone patient, organised, a good conversationist, and genuinely committed to supporting someone to live as independently as possible. Key responsibilities include: assisting with a variety of household chores, indoors and outdoors (gardening), dog walking, supporting daily physiotherapy exercises (as directed by a professional), helping the client access community activities, accompanying her to medical or other appointments when needed. Essential skills & qualities for the role are: an understanding of the care needs of a hemiplegic person who uses a manual wheelchair, patience, empathy and sensitivity, especially around memory or cognitive difficulties, a full driving licence and access to a suitable car (large enough for a collapsible wheelchair), confidence and physical ability to push a manual wheelchair across different terrains, good communication skills and ability to hold supportive, friendly conversation and a like for and willingness to get on with dogs. Desirable skills include: experience working with people who have experienced brain injuries, and computer, web design and social media skills (to help with an on-going project the client has been working on) If you are compassionate, practical and looking for a rewarding role supporting a disabled woman to live well day-to-day, we would love to hear from you.
