I am both the employer and Great grandfather to my 22 year old granddaughter, who has been allocated a direct payment to employ a PA. The PA support is required to enable her to access social opportunities, support with attending appointments promote her independence and life skills and assist her with day-to-day life. She is diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), ADHD, general anxiety, learning difficulties and has visual impairment. My Granddaughter is generally quite independent and able to meet all her own personal needs. She can access the community and go places she feels safe and familiar with. There are times she can become extremely anxious, and this can cause her to become agitated and upset, hurting herself or on occasion lashing out and hitting objects or scratching. She is extremely fit and enjoys going out, using public transport and shopping.
The support of a PA will provide reassurance and enable her to access the community, venture further afield and aid her in trying new things. We are seeking a PA who will be able to encourage and promote her independence further, assisting with cooking, prompting her to take on household chores and managing/budgeting her money. I am seeking a PA who is down to earth, patient and understanding of the implications and challenges she is presented with. The person we are looking for will be at times required to assist her to appointments and engage her in activities of her choice and interest. She is an animal lover and at times will care for and walk a family member’s dog. We are seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic PA who has knowledge and understanding of the traits associated with her disabilities. Someone with a calm nature, good sense of humour and communication skills, with the flexibility to meet her needs. The PA will be required to support her when out and about or at times within the family home.
Activities may include:

• Supporting her to go shopping/going to Newcastle
