I am a young man with severe autism, severe learning disabilities, and I am non-verbal. I live at home with my parents, who support me and help me make decisions. Staff should report any important information, concerns, or updates to my parents or representatives. I enjoy going on bus journeys and watching the world go by through the window. I also enjoy shopping, listening to music, and getting out into the community. Music is something I find enjoyable and relaxing. I am happiest when I am supported by people who are patient, understanding, and respectful of my communication style and individual needs. I benefit from familiar routines and activities that I enjoy. I require 2:1 support at all times when accessing the community due to the risk of absconding. Staff must remain vigilant and ensure appropriate supervision is maintained to support my safety and wellbeing. I do not recognise many everyday dangers and risks, such as crossing roads safely, moving vehicles, busy public areas, or other hazards in the community. Because of this, I rely on staff to provide close supervision, guidance, and support to keep me safe at all times. I respond best to support that is calm, reassuring, and person-centred, with staff taking the time to understand my preferences, routines, and methods of communication. Staff should be aware that I may move away quickly towards something that interests me, so maintaining appropriate supervision is essential for my safety and wellbeing.
