About the Employer

My 61 year old brother lives at home with my elderly mother in the Ryhope area of Sunderland. My brother is diagnosed with Tourettes and learning difficulties and has limited contact with anyone outside of the family as an individual in his own right. My brother has a really close relationship with our parents, spending all of his time with them. He supports them within the home and all are very dependent on one another. My brother has become very isolated and has never ventured out in the community without my mother or other close family members accompanying him, which has made him extremely reliant on them socially. My brother demonstrates as very anxious and worries about most things. He will require a great deal of support, encouragement and reassurance in the initial stages of having a Personal Assistant and accessing activities outside of the family home. My brother has limited experience of social companionship from anyone outside of the family and it will take time for him to build trust and feel comfortable in someone company, with the addition of also accessing activities in his local community. My brother has low self-esteem and lacks confidence in social situations. He can fixate on specific issues or have obsessive thoughts at times, example: worrying about his future. He requires a great deal of reassurance and support when engaging with people unknown to him or in new surroundings, such as when shopping, engaging direct with his peers or people in public.
