About the Employer

I am grandfather to a 25-year-old man with a diagnosed learning disability, anxiety, and depression. My grandson requires ongoing support across multiple areas of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, financial management, and medication administration. He benefits from verbal prompts and supervision to maintain hygiene, to dress appropriately, and complete household tasks. He attends a Horticultural Nursery twice weekly, so he does not need support on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. He has expressed a desire to access additional community activities, such as visiting Beamish Museum and attending car shows, and would benefit from a Personal Assistant (PA) to facilitate these outings and to promote independence. I feel my grandson would benefit from one to one PA support as this would strengthen his confidence and independence.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
• Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.
• Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
• Support the individual to look after/care for pets.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
• Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
• Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
• Support with managing paperwork & correspondence.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
