I am the employer and the service user who has access to a direct payment for PA care and support. Following a major stroke which resulted in my mobility being severely affected as well as my ability to complete general tasks, I am seeking a PA who will be able to provide support to enhance my day-to-day life and support me to continue living independently. I am otherwise quite isolated spending a great deal of time at home on my own or with family members, however, I wish to employ a Personal Assistant to allow me some independence and the opportunity to do the things I enjoy. I can walk independently with the use of a stick or with support within my home, however this is limited and restrictive. I am unable to use public transport or walk outdoors. Unfortunately my pet dog has recently passed away.
I have restricted hand movement in my right hand, so support is required with some basic, general tasks. I have a manual wheelchair and use this when out and has access to a taxi pass and if required or able to use PA’s car for travel.
If the successful candidate is a car driver and has use of a car, this would be desirable but not essential to the role. I have a very bubbly character with a very positive outlook on life, I have a good sense of humour and I am seeking a Personal Assistant with similar characteristics, to provide friendship, companionship, support, and encouragement in accessing social activities and events.
The role is to befriend and offer companionship to me with a view to extending my social network and promoting my independence. I enjoy most things and you will be required to provide companionship and friendship when going out. Examples of activities the successful candidate will be required to attend and support me in include: • going to the cinema • cooking • gardening • clothes shopping • going for meals or accessing café’s • going to the hairdressers, having her nails done or other associated pampering • being outdoor and indoors, weather dependent • being physically active • medical and hospital appointments • household chores and general tidying You will assist me in attending places of interest and help broaden my interests. You will assist me in accessing social activities and provide assistance to help engage me in the local community safely.
My needs may vary from day to day, and your tasks may reflect this.
You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. You may be required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to your role.
