I am the employer and father to my daughter who has been allocated a direct payment for PA support She has a diagnosis of Severe learning disabilities, Autism and has some mobility issues. She is non verbal and has access to a special needs pushchair went out in the community, as she struggles walking distances. My daughter requires assistance with all personal care needs, she will need support with feeding and due to her disability and young age, she still wears nappies and will require a PA to support with personal care- toileting when out and about My daughter has a beautiful smile and lovely nature however can at times become frustrated when unable to communicate effectively with those around her or when requiring something. This can affect her mood and behavior, resulting in her banging her head, biting herself or crying/shouting out. She is extremely drawn to all things sensory; she likes watching her IPAD, singing and having others sing to her, colours etc: that help stimulate her. She does struggle with crowded and noisy places and this will require the successful person for the role considering this when planning activities. She enjoys basic aspects of play, picking things up and dropping them to hear the differing sounds and can spend hours engaged in this. Playing with pebbles etc: My daughter is extremely vulnerable due to her age and disability and will require very close supervision and assistance at all times. She is known to place things/ objects in her mouth so close observation of her will be required to ensure her safety. We are seeking an experienced PA to provide care and support for the hours allocated, allowing us a break from our caring role and promoting independence, whilst encouraging her to try new things and access social activities away from the home. Summary of duties The successful personal assistant will be required to support my daughter in accessing new activities and experiences in the local community. There is requirement to support with personal care at times if on an outing, The role is to befriend and offer companionship with a view to extending her support network. Activities such as • Soft play • Going to parks • Going for walks to the beach and being outdoors • Enjoys sensory play and activities • Engage in group activities where appropriaye to broaden her social network It is desirable that the personal assistant will be expected to use their own car to take my daughter to social activities; however I would consider suitable applicants who do not drive. Her needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
