About the Employer

Support needed for a lady who is 72, with an IQ measured at 38 – so like a three-year old. Her condition is called microcephalis, which means that her brain didn’t grow, due to rubella. As well as her learning difficulty she is blind in one eye, and needs two hearing aids. She has a speech impediment, but most people get used to the way she talks. That said she is lively, very well socialised, generous and funny. Her last PA was with us for eight years – they became very good friends. We have recently moved to Leamington, and needs encouragement to engage in a range of activities. On her own she gets sluggish and depressed. Currently she only attends two two-hour music sessions at Netherfields, but she is always more animated when she gets back. More of this is needed. We need someone prepared to befriend her, introduce her gradually to the activities available, do jigsaws with her at home, take her shopping, take her for walks, maybe do some cooking with her at home. Really, the role is that of a companion. There is no personal care required, we see to all of that at home.
