About the Employer

14-year-old young person who is very active and enjoys a wide range of sensory and outdoor activities. I am profoundly autistic and non-verbal, communicating through an AAC device and objects of reference. I have a keen interest in trampolining, plastic footballs, spinning objects, zip lines, and water play. I also have specific food preferences and prefer to graze on food and snacks throughout the day. Due to my limited awareness of danger, I require close supervision when out in the community. I am known to run towards things that catch my interest and can quickly move away from those supporting me. For my safety, I am happy to use a wheelchair when out and about. I understand the word "no"; however, being told no can sometimes trigger behaviours of distress, including self-injury behaviours. Therefore, those supporting me should be able to use positive communication strategies and remain calm, patient, and reassuring in challenging situations. Despite my complex needs, I am a very affectionate and engaging young person. With the right person, I can build a strong, trusting relationship and develop a wonderful friendship. I am looking for a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Personal Assistant who can support me to access activities I enjoy, keep me safe, and help me make the most of every day.
