About the Employer

Our son is a happy, outgoing, and energetic young senior schoolboy who loves being outdoors. He has autism, global developmental delay and hyper mobility. Our son is solitary and is usually quiet but can have spontaneous bursts of energy. He can display challenging behaviors when events don't go his way usually when he is tired and when he’s in pain from walking. He needs a large chair to get him out into convenience for his safe space. He is sensitive to loud noises and busy environments, although he is making positive progress in these areas. Our son also has a pet dog, which forms an important part of his daily life. He thrives on routine, positive reinforcement, patient support, and engaging activities that help him develop independence and confidence.

The main duties are: -

•Personal Support 

•Provide consistent one-to-one support to our son in the home and community.

• Assist with daily living skills, including dressing, toileting, and maintaining routines.

• Carry out personal care, including managing pull ups and supporting with hygiene.

• Support our son during mealtimes, including feeding with a spoon and encouraging safe eating habits. Development & Independence

• Encourage our son to build confidence, develop independence, and reach his full potential.

• Support him in maintaining social relationships with family, friends, and peers.

• Adapt communication and approaches based on his needs, preferences, and sensory profile. Activities & Community Engagement

• Plan, organise, and take part in activities that are enjoyable, safe, and suitable for or son—particularly outdoor activities he loves.

• Support participation in community events and local experiences in a positive and meaningful way.

• Help create an environment that reduces anxiety, especially in noisy or busy areas. Transport & Mobility

• Transport our son to and from activities, home, school (if required), or other locations.

• Use own vehicle when needed (mileage reimbursed).

• Ensure safe travel at all times and general Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for our son’s safety, wellbeing, and emotional security.

• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

• Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by or representative.

• Always uphold professionalism, integrity, dignity, and respect.

 

The following are ESSENTIAL requirements for this post:

• Experience working with children with special needs, particularly autism and developmental delays.

• Flexibility to meet the needs of the family and ensure continuity of care.

• Strong, patient and adaptable communication skills centred around our son’s needs.

• Ability to cope under pressure and manage challenging behaviour calmly.

• Full, clean driving licence and ability to travel using your own vehicle.

• Understanding of safeguarding, boundaries, confidentiality, and professional conduct.

• Ability to support our son in developing independence and daily life skills.

• Confident in organising and participating in activities both inside and outside the home. Desirable Attributes

• Training or qualifications in childcare, autism support, SEN, or behaviour strategies.

• Experience supporting children with sensory needs or limited diets.
